How to Prevent Skin Cancer

How high should your SPF protection be in the sunscreen?

Well you should use at least a SPF 15 sunscreen but also it should contain mexoryl and titanium dioxide to more effectively block out the UVA rays. Both UVB and UVA can cause skin cancer after all. Apply this to any area of your body that is open to sun exposure.

Give the sunscreen sufficient time to soak into the skin before going out. You will also have to put it on again every couple of hours throughout your time outside.

2 - Another item on the how to prevent skin cancer list is to stay out of the sun at the hottest part of the day. This is from the hours of 10am to 4pm when the rays are more directly hitting you. Even on cloudy days you can still get hit by the UVA or UVB rays that cause skin cancer.

3 - Tanning beds need to be avoided too because they emit UVA rays. These rays penetrate deeper therefore present more danger to your body than the UVB rays too. The UVA rays go deep into your skin and can cause serious damage and even skin cancer.

4 - If you have to work out in the sun all day then wear sun protection clothing as well as sunscreen. Since your sunscreen can wear off it is wise also to protect your skin through clothing. A hat can protect your face when the brim is large enough. Also wear sunglasses to protect your eyes that give you uv protection.

5 - Give yourself skin exams and also go to the doctor and have your skin examined too. This should be done at least once a year by a qualified professional if you are over 40 years of age. This is to catch any unusual spots early enough for a successful cure.

6 - Remember that some of your medications recommend that you stay out of the sun while taking them. This is because they make your skin super sensitive to any exposure to the sun.

So now you know some of the ways on how to prevent skin cancer . Follow the above suggestions and your chances of having skin cancer will be much lower. If you abuse your skin it just may abuse you back.
