Hurricane Umbrella

We have a wonderful deck in my backyard that is full of furniture, but alas, no umbrella.
My mother had just bought a Patio umbrella to go on our deck. We used it to give shade to a beautiful patio table with a plastic rim and glass top.
We live in the east coast where we get quite a few storms and some hurricanes.
During one particularly windy hurricane, hurricane Floyd, we had forgotten to close the umbrella. The winds were so swift we could hear them sweep past the window.
After a few minutes, we heard a loud crash from the back yard.
The entire family ran outside only to find the glass table shattered to pieces all over the deck, and our patio umbrella in the neighbor’s back yard.
Moral of the story:
Always close your patio umbrella during an east coast hurricane or never buy a glass patio table.
