Infant Swimwear and Sun Protection
Do You Protect Your Baby With the Right UV Swimwear?
Infant swimwear or baby swimwear with UV protection are just as important as any sun
protection hat or UV protection hat that you use for them.
Naturally, babies are not aware of the harmful effects of the sun's ultraviolet rays.
It's your duty as parents, to make sure your infant is not exposed to the sun especially in
the first few months.
This is the time where their skin is very thin and has not built up
melanin
yet. They are
in great danger from head to toe due to UV radiation which is strongest at the solar noon
time.
What Is the Best Kind of Sun Protection in Baby Swimwear?
You need to look for brands which are rated UPF 50+. This is the highest rating available
and it gives your baby the maximum protection available.
This means 98% of the UVA and UVB are prevented from reaching your baby's sensitive skin.
This is a big step towards preventing skin cancer early on. The sunscreen manufacturers do
not recommend using them on infants less than 6 months old.
This UV swimwear clothing must also include a sun hat or UV protection hat plus UV baby
sunglasses.
What Can You Do For Extra Sun Protection, Even with the Baby Swimsuit?
If possible,
• Let them be outside before 10:00am or after 4:00pm
• Use indoor pools or gyms which are safe from UV skin damage
• Make sure the
infant swimwear
or baby swimwear protects the arms and legs as much
as possible, otherwise use a UV umbrella too.
Regardless of the sun protection umbrella, never leave your infants unattended.
Please check with you doctor or pediatrician before making a decision on your own.
