Sunburned When Pregnant Was A Nightmare

by Tanya
(New York)

When I was about 6 months pregnant, I went to the beach to relax and get a suntan. This was my first child and I knew nothing about pregnancy and the sun.

I was only there for a short time but the sun was very strong. I felt fine at the beach but when I got home later that night, my legs were extremely sunburned and felt sore.

Even worse, next morning my feet began to swell and I went to work walking slowly and painfully. At the end of the day, my feet were too swollen to put in my shoes and my legs were bright red as well.

I felt awful and called the doctor. He chided me saying he thought everyone knew that you are more susceptible to sunburn when you are pregnant.

I unfortunately did not know this. I had to stay home from work for several days as I could not walk and I was in alot of pain.

I used cold water compresses and a special prescription cream that the doctor ordered to combat the swelling.

I learned my lesson about how painful and disabling sunburn could be.
