The Vacation I Got Heat Exhausted

by Scott

I have always reacted poorly to the heat of summer. I get stomach sickness and headaches galore during the summer.

One summer I especially had it bad. We were on our way back from a vacation in Florida at the beginning of September.

We had just stopped for the evening at a hotel in North Carolina. When we got there, I feel really dizzy and nauseated.

My wife had me lay down on the hotel bed and she undressed me and covered my body in cold, wet towels.

I started to shiver and then I stumbled to the bathroom where I promptly got sick (threw up and had diarrhea). I then felt really shaky and nearly passed out on the bed.

My wife kept me cool with the wet towels and brought me room temperature water to drink. It was really scary.

I thought I was going to have to find a hospital for a minute, but I gradually cooled off and got back to feeling normal. For the rest of that evening though, I was really shaky and tired.

Too much time in the 90 degree heat (our car had no A/C)with not enough water to drink just did not agree with me.
